ABORTION PILL INFORMATION

Many telehealth abortion pill providers require an ultrasound before prescribing the abortion pill, and we offer this service for free. The gestational age of your pregnancy helps determine the most appropriate abortion procedure. A free ultrasound can confirm a viable pregnancy and determine how far along you are, which is important for assessing your eligibility for the abortion pill and exploring other options. Schedule a confidential and no-cost appointment today.

We do not perform or refer for abortions, which allows us to provide you with unbiased support. To learn more about abortion and your options, schedule an appointment.

MEDICAL ABORTION

A medical abortion, also known as the abortion pill, can be used up to 70 days (10 weeks) into a pregnancy. On average, the cost of the abortion pill in clinics in the United States ranges from $580 to $800 as of December 2024.

The FDA-approved abortion pill typically refers to a two-medication regimen used to terminate an early pregnancy. The first medication blocks progesterone, a hormone needed for the pregnancy to continue. Without progesterone, the uterine lining breaks down, and the pregnancy cannot proceed. The second medication is taken 24 to 48 hours later, causing the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy. The abortion pill can be reversed if action is taken after the first dose.

Medical abortion is not recommended if you:

  • Have an intrauterine device (IUD) currently in place
  • Suspect the pregnancy is ectopic (outside of the uterus), which can be life-threatening
  • Are more than 10 weeks pregnant, as the FDA has only approved the pill for up to 10 weeks from the last menstrual period. Using the pill later in pregnancy increases the risk of complications like incomplete abortion or severe bleeding
  • Have specific medical conditions, such as bleeding disorders, severe liver or kidney disease, heart disease, or uncontrolled seizure disorders
  • Are taking certain medications, including blood thinners or steroids
  • Are allergic to the medications used
